Here are some answers to a few questions we often recieve.
We are available in the office from 9am until 6pm. But we are very flexible and can accomodate nearly any schedule.
Call or email us anytime and we'll get back to you as soon as we can.
Contact us and we will be happy to schedule a class that fits into your schedule. Many companies have a set schedule of classes. But at LifeSavers we book classes by appointment:
If you are available only at 7am on a Tuesday? We'll do it.
If your office wants training in the evening after your business has closed for the day? We'll do it.
CPR (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) is a lifesaving skill utilizing two crucial elements to help sustain a victim until advanced medical help arrives. These two crucial elements are Chest Compressions (pushing on the chest) and giving ventilations.
Chest Compressions, the most crucial element of giving CPR is the act of pushing on the center of the chest. This simulates the heart’s natural pumping rhythms; which, in a state of cardiac arrest, is not performing as it should. Our efforts at effective chest compressions allow the heart to push oxygenated blood to the brain* to keep it alive.
The second element of CPR is giving ventilations, the act of blowing air into a victim’s lungs. The purpose of this is to introduce fresh oxygen** into a victim’s lungs which then is absorbed into the blood stream and distributed throughout the body with our compressions, most importantly to the brain.
When an adult collapses from Sudden Cardiac Arrest (SCA) there is still some oxygen left in their blood, however, their heart is in a compromised state and cannot effectively circulate that oxygenated blood to the brain. It is truly a matter of life and death that we begin these elements of CPR as soon as we realize a victim needs it.
*The brain cannot survive without oxygen: after 4 minutes without oxygen, brain cells begin to die. After 10 minutes without oxygen there is virtually no chance of survival or recovery for the brain.
**The air we breathe in is approximately 21% oxygen, what we exhale is approximately 16-17% oxygen, which is enough to temporarily sustain life.
An AED is another amazing life saving device. It is used to analyze and deliver an electric shock to a heart that is in fibrillation*. When a heart experiences fibrillation, it cannot effectively circulate blood to the body especially the brain; and it needs to be defibrillated as soon as possible. The defibrillating shock will re-set the heart, possibly setting it back into a normal rhythm; however the victim will likely still need CPR.
The Automated External Defibrillator is an advanced piece of medical machinery that is designed to be easy to use and can save lives! Once the machine is powered on, it will begin to speak and walk you through every step of the way. It analyzes the heart rhythms to determine if the victim is in fact fibrillating; it will ONLY deliver a shock** if the machine detects a shockable*** rhythm; such as ventricular fibrillation or ventricular tachycardia.
* Fibrillation: In cardiology, an abnormal and erratic twitching of the heart muscle.
** The AED will NOT/ can NOT deliver a shock when it is not needed. It is very safe to use.
*** Not every failing heart rhythm needs to be shocked by the AED.
You may need it for your job:
Emergency Responders in an office.
Health Care Providers (Nurses, Dentists, Dental Assistants, Physical Therapists etc.)
Laborers who are required to have OSHA approved emergency training. Construction, electricians, plumbers etc.
Teachers
Day Care workers
Parents
Foster and/or Adoptive Parents
Elder Care workers
Absolutely EVERYONE should be trained in CPR and the use of an AED. The more people who know how to save lives, the better we’ll all be!
